Clover Amour Crochet Hooks Review

Have you been curious about the Clover Amour crochet hooks but hesitant to drop the money on them to give them a try?  Keep reading to find out what my experience with them has been!

The Pros
Words cannot express how much I seriously love these hooks!  They are my dream hooks.  I take them everywhere and they have turned me into a complete hook snob.  I feel dirty trying to use any other hook and I ultimately go back to my Clover Amour hooks every time.  I have tried lots of different hooks too.  I have used the Boye aluminum cheap hooks, the Boye ergonomic handle for the cheap hooks, the Boye ergonomic rubber grip hooks, the Yarnology wood and plastic hooks from Hobby Lobby, some cheap aluminum hooks from Wish and the Clover Soft Touch hooks.  The Clover Soft Touch hooks I actually tried before the Amour ones.  I fell in love with the hook on it but I just didn't like the plastic handle.  It slid around in my hand too much.  I liked the rubber handles on the Boye ones I tried but I hated the hooks on them.  That's what led me to giving the Amour ones a try.  Here are all the things that make the Clover Amour Crochet Hooks so awesome:

  • The Handle
    • I have weak wrists and I am convinced I am slowly working on getting carpal tunnel from all the crocheting and typing I do.  Out of all the hooks I have tried the handle on these is the most comfortable.  I can crochet all day every day and not have a bit of pain.  I did experience some pain for the first week or so but at that point I had already abused my wrist and hadn't given it any rest.  If I had been using these hooks to start out with I don't think I would have had a bit of trouble.  The rubber grips are nice and smooth and feel great in my hand.
  • The Hook
    • This is seriously the smoothest hook I have gotten my hands on.  It glides through the yarn like a hot knife through butter.  Since I started using these hooks I haven't had any issue with my yarn splitting unless it's just really cheap and crappy yarn.  Even then the splitting and snagging is minimal.  I have had people tell me the wood hooks are even better but the only wood ones I have tried are the Yarnology ones from Hobby Lobby.  The hooks on those had this weird plastic coating that made them squeak and they were definitely not as smooth as the Clover Amour hooks.
  • The Colors
    • I really love all the fun colors that these hooks come in.  I like that they are all different colors too because it makes easier to find the hook you need.  You end up memorizing the colors so you don't have to look at the sizes on each handle to find what you need.
  • The Price
    • If you compare the price of the cheaper hooks with these vs the quality, the Clover Amour hooks are very affordable.  You can currently buy the set of 10 regular hooks on Amazon for cheaper per hook than the Boye ergonomic hooks from Wal-Mart.  If you aren't sure you will like them you can also buy them individually and try them out before buying the whole set.  When I bought mine I didn't have the money to buy the set so I bought them one or two at a time every paycheck until I had all the sizes I wanted.  They also have the thick yarn hooks too.  Those have a white hook instead of the silver hook that is on the regular sizes.  The set of those is more expensive though.  Unless you just crochet with bulky yarn a lot then I would recommend getting just the sizes you need.  I have the 6.5 mm, 8.0 mm, 10.0 mm, 12.0 mm, and 15.0 mm.  Honestly though I hardly ever use them.  I tend to crochet with 3 or 4 weight yarn the majority of the time.  I have used the 6.5 mm and the 8 mm though with some chunky yarn and the 12.0 mm with the Bernat blanket yarn.

The Cons
Honestly there really isn't anything that I just don't like about these hooks.  The only thing I can say is that I would love to see them do bigger handles that stay the same size regardless of the hook size.  The same can be said for almost every crochet hook though.  The only ones I have seen that have big enough handles that stay the same size are the Furls and furls knock offs.  I have been dying to try those but I just can't bring myself to pay that much for hooks.  Maybe one day my husband will gift them to me haha.  Probably not but hey a girl can dream lol.

Here are the links for the regular set, the steel set, the thick yarn set, and the 5 mm hook that I started my set with.

I would love to buy from abroad, I’ve seen such lovely items, but they all want paying by PayPal, which im not in.

Have you checked Amazon? You should be able to purchase them through there without needed PayPal. Personally I like PayPal and I use it to take payments for my business but I know some people just don’t like it. You don’t have to have a PayPal account though to pay through PayPal. You can checkout as a guest and use a debit or credit card.

Girl, you’re making me want to learn to crochet! I don’t and this review may get me there! Something as simple as the hooks was made to seem to interesting, ideal and creatively expressed by you! Great piece, while I may not right now, I’ll pass this along to any friends/family that do!!

Thank you! I love to crochet and I am completely self taught. I learned with the books I have and videos from The Crochet Crowd and Yarnspirations on YouTube. I have a lot of fun with it and it has become my new addiction lol. I have yarn everywhere waiting to be made into something new and the possibilities are endless. I’m actually working on a stuffed dragon right now :-).

It has been years since I have crocheted. And I still have aspirations that one of these days my life will slow down enough, and I will crochet again. I used to love to. I’m glad you did a review on these hooks. To be honest, if I had not read your review, I would be hesitant to purchase them because they look bulky. Based on your review, I would definitely try them. Also, I really like when I read about a product if the author has links to purchase those products. It makes it so much easier for me.

Thank you for the kind words and I hope you if you purchase them you love yours as much as I love mine!
